MIT Children´s Projects

Children are our future. Their welfare is the responsibility of us all. The MIT Initiative supports numerous projects around the world aligned to the protection, care and support of children.
MIT children’s projects aim at making the lives of children worth living and to convey strength, joy of life and self-confidence. Each year Henkel KGaA and the local sites of the Henkel Group ask for project applications which especially focus on the improvement of the life situation of children and younger people.
Once a year an international MIT-Jury selects the MIT children’s projects. Henkel sponsors children’s projects centrally by donating one million euros each year. In 2007, Henkel has supported the children´s projects with an additional amount of one million euros.
Henkel Korea: A Henkel Psychotherapy Room for Abused Children
As a part of the MIT Children´s Project, Henkel Korea has opened the “Henkel Psychotherapy Room for Abused Children” at the Exciting Group Home - a temporary home for children who are mistreated by their parents or family - which is run by Save the Children Korea. The Group Home was unable to provide proper therapies for the children in the past although psychological treatment on a regular basis is of prime importance for children who have experienced ill-treatment. With the help of Henkel, about 120 children will now be treated annually at the Group Home. Furthermore, Henkel Korea employees visit the Group Home once a month to do volunteer work. They help cleaning the house, provide tutoring, cook meals and, in general, play the role of “one-day parents” in order to establish a close relationship with the maltreated children.
